Brianne M. Oliveira, 20, of New City, N.Y., and Bryan Pollard, 20, of Park Ridge, each were charged with one count of burglary in the third degree and one count of theft.

According to Essmann, officers responded to the scene after a caller claimed to have witnessed two people break a window pane in the front door at 112 Paris Ave. and enter the residence, exiting a short time later with a large black box that was later determined to be a safe, Essman said. Witnesses said the two placed the safe in the backseat of their vehicle and drove away.

With the assistance of the homeowner, witnesses and the Clarkstown, N.Y., Police Department, Northvale police were able to locate Oliveira and Pollard in New City. The stolen safe was located in a dumpster in a New City park where it had โ€œobviously been tampered with,โ€ Essmann said.

Oliveira and Pollard were detained at the Rockland County Jail and will be extradited to Northvale for a first hearing.
